What is Whiplash?
A whiplash injury is very common in an auto accident. A whiplash injury is the result of rapid acceleration or deceleration. If your head is suddenly jerked forward and swung back beyond natural limits, muscles and ligaments that provide support to the head can be torn, stretched, or sprained. The soft tissue that lives between your spinal discs can tear or rupture causing pain in both the neck and back. Your spine can become misaligned which will reduce your range of motion.
How do I know if I have whiplash? There are numerous symptoms of whiplash. First and foremost, you may experience neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, lower back pain, nausea, fatigue, dizziness, vertigo, blurred vision, a ringing in the ears, or a difficulty swallowing. These symptoms usually appear within 24 hours of your accident, so be on the look out!
