Your sleeping position may be affecting your spine

Incorrect posture during sleep can cause neck, back, and shoulder pain.

Two basic rules:
-Avoid sleeping face down.
-Keep to neutral position when sleeping on your side or on your back.

Sleeping on your stomach forces your neck to turn sideways and keeps you trapped as long as you are asleep. This can certainly cause irritation to the spine and nerves of the neck and shoulders.
